Memo: Chevy Cavalier under investigation for fuel pump failure

Consumers fell behind on loan payments in the first quarter at the highest rate since the last U.S. recession in 2001, the American Bankers Association said, attributing the rising losses to lagging home-equity loans.

The bankers' group said 2.42 percent of auto, personal, home-equity, home-improvement, mobile-home and boat loans were at least 30-days past due during the first three months of 2007, the highest since the second quarter of 2001.

It's magic again

Amazon.com Inc. received 1.6 million orders for "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows," a record for any book that has yet to be released.

Worldwide pre-orders for the seventh and last Harry Potter book, due for release July 21, broke the previous record of 1.5 million set by J.K.

Another Reason Why You Should Buy a Home

While financial advisers almost reflexively urge consumers to avoid carrying credit card balances from month to month and to go easy on boat loans, car loans and other forms of debt, they usually make an exception for a mortgage used to buy your home. A home mortgage is one of the very best uses of credit.

The fundamental reasoning is simple: While you could save your money and buy clothes, cars and maybe even college tuition outright with cash, very few people could ever hope to save enough to buy a home for cash, especially during their child-rearing years when they have the greatest need. A mortgage allows you to buy a home after having saved only a relatively small amount of its value, perhaps 5% or less, and to reap the financial gains as its value grows over the years.

Buy what you can afford

Choosing the right mortgage, however, can be a make-or-break decision for your overall financial picture.

The World Of Boat Financing

Boat financing, much like car financing, is, at the very least, an interesting area of discussion. While the core function remains the same, the fact remains that boat financing and car financing can be different from one another in a number of details. For example, when buying a boat, a common course of action is to apply for a financing. In contrast, one has more financing options when buying a car. Since you can only make use of a loan in purchasing a boat, it would be helpful to know how the whole process works, as well as where to apply for a loan and what the usual terms are. The more common sources for boat loans are banks, though there are some organizations that specialize in providing nothing but boat loans.

There are, naturally, several things to keep in mind when choosing an organization for one's boat financing needs.
